
The pic above shows the 'drain pond' at the left. The water in this pond comes from a drain along the lower boundary of the kahikatea block, preventing water flowing into the neighbour's property. This is underground seepage water from the flow of water in the kahikatea block. The 'drain pond' overflow enters 'lake pohangina' in the background. The pond on the right is the 'spring pond' and the water flowing into it comes from the 'triangle pond' (see aerial view of damsite block) that is surface water from the kahikatea block.
The pic below is a closer view of the 'drain pond'. On this particular day there were several welcome swallows catching insects over the water.
