Home Pond

The home pond was created in September 2001 and is the first pond established in the Pohangina Wetlands Development. The pond is fed by an underground aquifer and excess water runs out of the pond and down to the dam site block.

Right away, the pond attracted birdlife. Besides our white Pekin ducks, the pond is visited by many mallards daily, and occasionally pairs of Paradise Shelduck, Black Shag, Spur-Winged Plover, White-Faced Heron, Welcome Swallow and even a large Black Swan was a resident for 3 days.
